Formula

Finished inches = stitch count × threads spanned ÷ fabric count. Cut size adds the chosen margin to both sides of each dimension.

How to use the result

Choose the nearest practical fabric count, then recalculate.

A required count of 15.4 does not mean you need custom fabric. Compare available 14- and 16-count fabrics and calculate the exact finished design width for each.

For evenweave worked over two, the fabric thread count is twice the effective stitch count: 28-count over two behaves like 14 stitches per inch.
